Welcome to the newly redesigned Big Balloon Music site (we finally got rid of those damn stars!). Any redesign seems to create all sorts of dead links and other challenges - so we welcome your comments and suggestions about our new look.

Feathers for Flesh, the new CD by The Red Masque is now available for pre-order. The release date is July 9, 2004. The CD will also be available at the Big Balloon table at NEARfest. You can hear song samples here. Watch this space for information about reviews, vendors who are carrying the CD, etc.

The newest Big Balloon Music release is "Musica en Flagrante" by Dreadnaught. Big Balloon Music in conjunction with Red Fez Records is proud to announce the 4th release by Progabilly masters DREADNAUGHT.   This album marks an expansion of the musical pallette for the band - there's still plenty of the prog-tinged rock & roll that has made them such a fun and energetic act, but a wide range of other influences come into play also, from modern classical to funk to you-name-it.  It's a great addition to the Dreadnaught legacy!

Release date is March 9, 2004.

The Red Masque - Beggars & Thieves.   The first single from the album Feathers for Flesh. "...I also got a single from a local band called The Red Masque, which is certainly the right thing to listen to if you want your musical boundaries stretched forcibly wider - but at almost 40 minutes, it's the best four bucks you'll spend, and you really should just for the chance to hear Lynnette Shelley sing. She is pretty damn amazing. I also recommend playing it, if you can, while you drive down a dark road in the middle of the night; that was our first exposure, and oh, wow."

Eric Kampman – The Gate. Eric has grown musically since his last release, “The Well.” He has challenged himself on an album that has both a musical and lyrical thematic consistency throughout – it’s a deeply personal account of his search for spiritual growth and understanding. Eric is joined by Barbara Crawford on percussion, Gary Morrell on guitar and Jamison Smeltz on Alto Sax.

I was very impressed with the material that was a CD-R release by Visual Cliff, featuring Rob Perez on guitars, Rick Mals on drums & bass and Rob Klan on keyboards. They agreed to let me do a pressing of the newly expanded and remastered version. Featuring eight ripping fusion instrumentals alternating crunching heavy guitar riffs and rippling guitar and keyboard parts, the songs effortlessly change directions and show off their great skills as musicians and tasty writing.
